Excluding Unused Blocks
In addition to excluding swap files and partitions, NAKIVO Backup & Replication allows you to exclude unused disk blocks during the backup or replication process. This includes the following areas within the file system:
-
Never-used volume space
-
File system areas previously occupied by deleted files (without hard reference)
Enabling this option reduces the size of backups and replicas by ensuring that only relevant data is processed and stored. By excluding unused disk blocks, the workflow requires less processing power and completes faster.
This option can be configured on a per-job basis on the Options page of backup and replication jobs and is enabled by default. The feature supports source objects running on Windows operating systems and is available for the NTFS file system.
